Fairy tales: my latest obsession.

My latest obsession centers around fairytales. There are so many versions out there, and so many ways for writers to put their own unique spin on them.

In searching for places to submit my writing, I came across a neat website called Enchanted Conversation. This site is dedicated to all things fairytale, and has published many works of fiction (poetry and prose) relating to various legends. It has been very helpful in inspiring me to write new versions of fairytales myself!

I am currently working on a submission for the month of March which I am very excited about. I don’t want to give too much away but it concerns one of my favorite tales, Cinderella.

(Note: you can now view my submission here!)

Enchanted Conversation actually had a Cinderella issue a few years ago, with writing focused solely on this particular princess.I thought I would share a few of my favorites from the issue, along with commentary to get you started!

Ethereal: A very interesting take on the fairy godmother aspect, and a clever look into what Cinderella’s (dead) father thinks about his daughter becoming a slave to her stepfamily.

The Fairy Godmother’s Trial: Why would Cinderella’s fairy godmother be on trial? Find on why in this sweet short story. Featuring an appearance from Cinderella herself!

Cinderella: A Rat to Riches Story takes us into the mind of the rat who was transformed into Cinderella’s footman for the ball! An interesting perspective, indeed.

Royal Ball? Get Home Before Midnight or Magic Happens: A hilarious story told from the perspective of Cinderella’s prince. Dash it, I say! It’s absolute comic genius.

Let me know what you think in the comments, and be sure to leave comments on the site itself as well!
